APL Goes Green

What does it mean to be green?

In 2003, the Andover Public Library (APL) Board of Trustees committed to build a new green library and to become an eco-demonstration prototype in order to minimize the environmental impact of a new building. People will learn IN the building as well as FROM the building.

Since green buildings cost less to operate and than conventionally constructed buildings,

APL went in a fiscally responsible direction at the same time it became environmentally responsible. Green buildings use less energy and natural resources and are better integrated into their sites and communities. They are more comfortable and attractive to customers/patrons and employees.

They are also less likely to contribute to health problems and more likely to enhance productivity

and learning.

Andover Recycling Program

APL is committed to supporting programs in the community that encourage sustainability and environmental responsibility. To that end

we are pleased to support the Andover Recycling Program that is offered on the first and third Saturdays of each month from 10am - 1pm. The recycle trailers are located in Central Park.

APL is proud to partner with the

Wichita Audubon Society

The Wichita Audubon Society has donated bird feeders and food to the

library to encourage community interest and involvement in bird watching.                                  This previous winter, a rare species, the Red Crossbill, was even spotted at APL's bird feeders.

Periodically, the Wichita Audubon Society gives classes on bird watching at APL. Please check our Upcoming Events Page to check for classes.
