What does it mean to be
green?
In
2003, the Andover Public Library (APL) Board of Trustees
committed to build a new green
library and to become an eco-demonstration prototype in
order to minimize the environmental impact of a new
building. People will learn IN the building as well as FROM
the building.
Since green buildings cost less
to operate and than conventionally constructed buildings,
APL went in a fiscally responsible direction at the same
time it became environmentally responsible.
Green buildings use less energy
and natural resources and are better integrated into their
sites and communities. They are more comfortable and
attractive to customers/patrons and employees.
They are also less likely to contribute to health problems
and more likely to enhance productivity
and learning.
